Comparing Selfies Across The Time.
Today in photography I compared two selfies. One was a drawing from Rembrandt in 1630, the second one was a photograph of Kim Kardashian around in the 2015. We found out the dates of when these were taken after we had looked at the photos trying to guess the dates they were taken.
Masked or Disguised Selfie
Mirror selfies
- How long have mirror selfies been a trend for? Mirror selfies have been a trend since the 1914.
- Why might a photographer use a mirror to take a selfie? Photographer might use a mirror to take a selfie because they might want to cover they face with a camera. They could also want the reflection.
- Who was Vivian Maier? Vivian Maier was a photographer who took loads of photos and never got them developed. She stored the negatives in many different boxes that were extremely large and heavy.
- What are three adjectives you would use to describe the photo you have chosen?
"Narrative Sequencing: Lee Friedlander's Shadow Selfies."
In todays lesson we was given 12 photos taken by Lee (a famous photographer). We had to make a story out of at least 8 photos. We used exactly 8 photos and made a story out of the photos are peers didi the same thing and no one had the same story.
WWW:
In my opinion it went very well because the story was very different to others. It made sense and went really well with the pictures. |
EBI:
Even better if we had put the photos closer together and put arrows in between them and possibly wrote more to each photo. |
1) What is the role of the shadow in the sequences?
2) How did adding words impact the image?
It impacted the images by showing the story line and demonstrating that it is what happened and you have not got to guess what happened.
3) What has narrative sequencing taught us about the nature of photography?
It has taught us that if the photographer doesn't wright a caption then everyone will have a different perspective of the photo.

The Cubist Selfie.
To me this photo looks like Alma has taken 3 photos 2 of the same and one different. She has also cut out 2 similar photos and one different and stuck them together.
WWW: What i think went well was that i cut the pieces out really well and made it look very creative.

EBI: Even better if i had moved the face down a little bit and could of put another little face on top.

In Kenneth Josephson photograph I can see that it is hot outside because everyone in the photo is wearing short sleeves tops. The lighting is good because you can see how hot it is because of how detailed his shadow is. In the photo there is four people, two are outside the vehicles, one is in a car and the other is on a bicycle. Kenneth Josephson is holding a piece of card with a square piece cut out which he is holding towards the car in front of him with someone's hand hanging out the car window. There are four people, which means you can see four arms. There's one hanging out the car window, there's one holding a piece of card, there’s one next to Kenneth Josephson relaxing and there’s also one riding the bicycle. Francesca Woodman photograph works in a different way, I can see two people hiding behind two different objects. You can tell it’s a door because there isn't a frame to connect at the bottom and if it was a mirror, you would be able to see the camera reflection. Francesca Woodman is taking this picture, she's not in her photo but if you compare it to Kenneth Josephson, you can see his arm holding the card. In Francesca Woodman photo the lighting is dull, but it makes it better because the photo itself is quite dull. You can tell your looking through a door and it's not a mirror.
Kenneth Josephson photograph includes different types of frames. These are the square in the card, the car window and the bicycle. Kenneth Josephson has framed his photograph in a landscape way, but Francesca Woodman has framed hers straight up. Francesca Woodman has only three different ways she has frames her photo which are, the doorway, the person hiding behind the box with their hand on it and the last one is the person wrapped in the foil.
Out of these two interesting photos i prefer Josephson's photo because it has more going on which interests me. I like the fact that it has old cars which i like old cars also it has great shadows which show great lighting. I believe this is a good set up and they made it look like they didn't know the photographer was taking the picture.
