Some initial questions
My relationship with the natural world is not very regular, by that I mean that i do not really go out into the natural world and explore round, but when I do go out I am around a lot of nature like; trees, leafs, grass and a lot of flowers.
If anyone wanted to go and see a landscape, I would recommend for you to go somewhere that has a lot of nature and a lot of colour. I think this would be a good landscape because it is a very spaced out area, for example if you go to the park near you they would be very colourful and natural landscapes you could get.
I think people take pictures of nature as they find it relaxing and it could make anyone feel a sort of way, because some people don’t like taking pictures of nature but then you got other people that love it and enjoy it.
I think some photographs can help us to change the way we see things because, people have they own way to take photos and everyone is different. This can help us change the way we see things because no one takes photographs the same and the way others take photos can change the way you see and take photos as well.

What is a landscape picture?
When I hear the word 'landscape' in my imagination I see a side photograph of maybe a sunset or nature like a lot of trees around in one photo. I would also think of someone taking a picture of someone taking a photograph of a landscape of a well known area. If I was to list the first 10 words that associate with landscape they would be; Land, environment, country, back roads, scenery, horticulture, plain, collages, sunset, riversides.
I done a Google image search for the word landscape, and I got a lot of images of sunsets, trees and a lot of nature and abstract photographs.
My ideal landscape would be very full off a lot of nature and a sunset in the background and be very bright and colourful. When I look outside my classroom window, the landscape I see is a school building full of windows all around it with children in they class and grass all at the bottom and can also see boxes through the window.
I have taken a landscape photograph before. The landscape was of the sunsetting with very bright colours with a lot of beautiful clouds around it. I took this landscape because the sunsetting was beautiful and when I take photographs of the sunset it makes me feel a sort of way as it makes me feel like the people that have pasted away are sending a message down.

Dafna Talmor
Dafna Talmor is a visual artist and lecture who is based in London and practice encompasses photography. Dafna includes her photographs in public collection like Hiscox and private collections internationally. Dafna has come very far with her creative work as she has been doing this for 23 years today, I think this is good because she’s come very far as she has made her own photograph landscape book and that has come so far. She constructed the environment in her work by the on going body of work consists of staged landscape made of collaged and montaged colour negatives shot across different locations and transformed through the act of splicing. Dafna Talmor’s photographic practice has undergone a paradoxical shift. Her series Obstructed Views presents interior scenes and self-portraits with the exterior world only hinted to, yet since 2009 her practice has dissociated from reality and questioned the value of presence, depicting ostensibly natural landscapes, albeit ones with no definitive location. Talmor's constructed landscapes have been exhibited in her ground. Women photographing landscape in 2019 at flower east, unseen Amsterdams 2018, and photo fusion 2017 amongst other shows. In Talmor's country of birth, Israel it took over several years for photographs to form a project. She was raised in Venezuela, and was currently living across the UK.
Homework
This is my homework, for this piece of work we was set to take landscapes around our area. I decided i would take some pictures when i went on a school trip for history up London, I also took some around of London when i went on the city cruise over the week we had off, then i took photos around my area which is Charlton and near Cherry orchard. These were the landscapes I took, because they have very bright and colourful backgrounds and outlines, I also took these photographs as they have a lot going on in them and with the sky a part of the picture I think it breaks it down a bit. Most of the photographs have a lot of buildings in them so I made sure I got the sky in and a lot of colour to break it down around the whole of the photograph. This helps because it wont look like I have tried to over do it and they all go perfect and look pretty good together. I think i have done really well with this homework and have made myself pretty proud.
The Idea of Landscape
The artist has chosen to include the position of the object which the image captures, for example in the first image the artist has captured the dirt mountain as a landscape with nothing else around the photograph. For the second photograph the artist included a landscape of the blue sky but also captured the man on the horse leaving the scenery. The photographers relationship with the landscape in the first photograph makes me think that the artist has a good relationship with dull but interesting landscapes as the mountain has dark colours and is not very bright. The second photograph i think the artist relationship with the landscape is very different to the first artist as the second landscape has a lot of bright colours and also has a bit more going on in the photo. From where I am looking at the landscape in the first photograph the vantage point is high but also straight on. The second landscape vantage point is coming from a low angle but also looks like you are looking at it from the side. The first artist is close to the landscape, this is obvious because the mountains look too near the camera which makes me think it is a close up. The second artist is distant from the landscape, I think this because the man and horse look so close to the clouds which also makes me think it is fake. The mountain landscape is represented as it makes me feel like i am trapped on a desert in the middle of no where. The horse and man landscape is represented as it makes me think it looks fake and edited, this is because the horse is so close the the clouds and looks the same size as the man.
'Bad' landscapes photographs
Today's task was to take 12 bad landscapes, this made me feel a bit relaxed as I did not have to worry about getting perfect photographs but also made me feel a little stress as they do not look the best that I can do and looked like they were rushed. The photographs look very messy, blurry and not neat. This stresses me out a bit because when you do photography your photographs are meant to be perfected and not confused. When I say confused I mean its not meant to be all over the place and is meant to be skilful and well ordered. These photos are meant to be landscape but as you can see they are all either to one side or are very blurry, but this is brilliant because they have not got to be ideal as they are meant to be unacceptable and not suitable landscapes.
Dionne Lee's Constructed Landscapes
In this video Dionne Lee was creating and making collages. She cuts and tear's pictures from magazines to make her own collages. Her collages are very different to other artists because she finds different ways to make them as she don't use a lot of tools and you can only see her using scissors a few times and the rest she uses her hands. She layers her magazine pictures over the top of each other as if you can not see the other photographers unless you have cut out pieces in the top one. You can tell that Dionne Lee takes a lot of pride in her work and this is easy to know because the way she places her work down and how gently she rips everything apart and she takes her time through her work.
In this lesson our work was to do a similar constructed landscape to Dionne Lee. This idea is to get any landscape photographs and just be creative, as you can see my landscapes are colourful and have a lot of nature or you will see sunsets, flowers, trees and sea. I think i have done good with the way my landscapes have turned out.
Homework (Out Of Focus Landscapes)
This weeks homework was to take ten or more out of focus landscapes. My landscapes have a lot to do with the outside world with a lot of nature and bright colours. I think my homework has quiet a bit to it, for example my work has nature, colour, brightness, sea, people, the outside world and it is a out of focus landscape. I am very happy with the way this homework has turned out.
Ray Metzker's Pictus Interruptus
Ray Metzker's Pictus interruptus photograph look more abstract than other artists we have looked at. Ray exploits and exaggerated the properties of still photography. He focuses on what is going on around and in the image to interrupt the first landscape before he added small details to make the photograph what it is now with the details added. Metzker uses technical skills for example odd framing, multiple exposures, deep contrast, and the interruption of various objects placed between the lens and the subject.
My Pictus Interruptus
In this lesson we had to get a plain bit of card and interrupt it. I interrupted my piece of card by making loads of little and big holes around the card and also added different colour clean film. I had also taken pictures out of books and magazines and cut them into different shapes and done smaller holes on the shape. I interrupted my piece of card by taking ideas and inspiration from Ray Metzker, he inspired me to cover up the card as much as I can and places as many distractions around the card. This is why my card is very full and distracted with holes and smaller dots and shredded coloured clean flim.
Google (Maps) Glitches
This task we went on Google maps and we searched around our whole world/ country to find glitches around the places. As you can see my Google glitches either have concrete or grass in they surrounds, these Google glitches have glitched by trying to blend the distraction in with the surroundings. Some of this stuff has a reason to be glitched or blurred out for example license plates and the faces off people this is to maintain privacy. You can also sometimes see pets or animals blurred out to protect owners as well.
questions
- What is a landscape picture?
- What have you learned about the reasons why people make pictures of landscapes?
- What’s a typical landscape photograph?
- What landscapes are important to you?
- What is the Climate Emergency?
- Why might contemporary artists/photographers NOT want to make typical (or conventional) landscape photographs any more?
- How could you say something about your relationship to landscapes in this final personal response?
A landscape picture usually involves daylight photography of natural features for example, land, sky/sunset or sun rising and waters or water falls at a distances. Although some landscapes may require objects or subjects in a setting near by, also close ups can involve subjects and sometime photographs at night time can involve anything. Landscape photography is done variety of reasons. Perhaps people take landscapes to capture the showing of nature but can also look at manmade features and other distractions in the landscape. They also take landscapes to look back on experiences while traveling. In my opinion a typical landscape has anything to do with a image that has come from the outside. This could be anything to do with the sky, sun, sea, land, city and nature. Landscapes I prefer involve the sky and sunsets, this is because when I look at the sunsetting I see it as the people that have passed a no longer our with me as the are building that sunset to say we are here and are proud. It feels a bit like they with me.
Half term Photographs
These photographers are what I took over the half term break. I think these photos show I was interacting with nature and outside world a lot more than I was while I was in school.
Constructed landscape photo sculpture
Constructed landscape photo sculpture 2
The theme I explored was creating a sculptures at of paper and different shapes. My first thoughts on making a sculpture was figuring out what I'm going to create out of paper and how am I going to get it to stay.
